First United Methodist Church of Denton, TX

Giving and Stewardship

“I will support this church with my prayers, my presence, my gifts, my service and my witness.” We all say these words upon joining First Methodist Denton in those first heady moments filled with excitement and anticipation. Something has brought us to this point: a warm smile and a friendly word when we first visited; outstanding programs for our children; spirit and music-filled worship services; far-reaching missions and ministries; caring and compassionate pastors; a beautiful big, downtown church; or perhaps a welcoming Sunday School Class. We are a part of FUMC for a variety of personal reasons – but we all want this church to BE HERE – serving our needs and those of our community. We expect the doors to be open, the lights to be on, the staff to be present, and the Ministry to take place day after day.

The mission of this church is to help us make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. How do we make it possible for First UMC-Denton to operate and meet this mission of our Methodist denomination? We acknowledge that we as Christians are charged to faithfully manage the gifts that God has given and to return a portion of these gifts to God through the church. By fulfilling our membership pledge given at the time of our joining, we can give solid financial commitments to our church leaders to plan to fund our ministry and mission costs for the year.

Our participation in FUMC is based upon our individual financial commitment and follow-through. If we expect this church to BE HERE – in service to God and this community from this location - we all should honor our membership pledge “I will support this church with my prayers, my presence, my gifts, my service and my witness.” We should be a church where “Everyone Contributes.”
