Where friends and faith meet

Neighborhood ConneXions

We are a people who are hungry for meaningful relationships that draw us closer to one another and to God. It was out of this need that our Neighborhood ConneXion ministry was born. In spring 2011, we began meeting outside our building and in our neighborhoods to eat, laugh, get to know each other, and dream about the future of our life together.

This kind of ministry is not a new idea. John and Charles Wesley pioneered it with the creation of "classes" (i.e. small groups) within the "society" (i.e. church). This fall, we re-launched this ministry, realigning boundary lines for neighborhoods and inviting a new class of leaders – hosts and facilitators.

The ConneXions usually meet every other month. Each host/facilitator team sets the time and location. Below are descriptions of the leadership roles so that you might discern if you feel the Spirit calling you to be more involved in your ConneXion:

Host - The role of the host is to make all persons who come feel welcome. You, along with the facilitator, will set the dates for your ConneXion. You may host the get-together at your home, at someone else’s home, at a neighborhood park, etc. The only guidelines are that this will be a family event, so be sure that whatever area you choose will be inviting to all ages.

Facilitator - The role of the facilitator is to facilitate the Neighborhood ConneXion, ensuring that discussion flows smoothly and all voices are recognized and heard. You, along with the host, will set the dates for your ConneXion.

Our prayer for our Neighborhood ConneXion ministry is that each group will continue to be a place of fellowship, encouragement, and growth.

When new members are added to a group, the host of the group is notified so that the new member can be invited. Those who have not yet joined the church but want to be involved in a ConneXion group can contact Rev. Jessica Wright (jwright@fumc-denton.com) for more information.
