Prayer Walking

Prayer Walking in FUMC-Denton is good for our mission and ministry and your body and soul.

Why Prayer Walk?

Prayer walking intensifies the connection between body and the soul by walking and praying at the same time. To walk in the church building is a way to practice intercessory prayer for the mission and ministries that take place in the building and in our outreach to this community and to our country and world. While you may begin your prayer walk with devotional prayer, prayer walking becomes your active intercession on behalf of FUMC we serve others through Godís love and grace.

Why Prayer Walk within our Church?

You will be blessed and be a blessing, not only by praying, but also by walking. Prayer walking is a time of healthy moving in which both body and soul are strengthened. As you move from place to place, the ministry and mission of those places become real. You can almost see the people, hear the words of caring, know Godís loving presence and desire for mission and ministry. It becomes ìhands-on praying; your presences becomes part of the prayer.

What Is Prayer Walking at FUMC-Denton?

Prayer walking is actively praying while you walk throughout the church building.

Who Can Prayer Walk?

Anyone can prayer walk for you go at your own pace. You can go throughout the entire building or in one specific area.

What Do I Need to Do to Prayer Walk?

Come when the church is open. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Check in with the reception area. Begin with meditation time in Cole Chapel and use the prayer-walking guide located on the desk at the columbarium if youíd like prayer-walking ideas and suggested topics for prayer.

Can I Walk with a Partner?

Yes. You may walk alone, with someone else or as a family.

First Floor Prayer Stations:

  • Cole Chapel
    • Start in Cole Chapel for a personal prayer time and opening yourself to an awareness of prayer needs of our church, our community, our state, our country and world. When ready, begin prayer walking.
    • Use all entryways as "pause stops", doorways of prayer for persons coming and going.
  • Columbarium
    • Side walk to rooms above area
  • Flinn Hall and Flinn Hall Lounge
  • Monroe Building from SE doorway
  • Staff offices
  • Receptionist's desk
  • Courtyard
  • Miller Center
  • Mission Corner
  • Library, kitchen
  • Visitorís Area and meeting room

Sanctuary Stations:

  • Narthex
  • Entrances to sanctuary
  • Top of the stairs in the narthex to balcony

Second /Third Floor Prayer Stations:

  • East Wing
  • Tree of Life and Gallery of Disciples
  • Adult rooms
  • Children's rooms
  • Glass half-wall at end of 2nd floor
  • Music area and multi-purpose rooms
  • Education Wing
  • Second floor classrooms
  • "Youth Loft" on 3rd floor

*NOTE: The walk can take more or less time, for example, 30 to 60 minutes, depending how quickly you walk. You decide what kind of energy you want to expand in prayer walking. You may stop at a station or only briefly pause, according to your sense of payer needs as you go.
