Youth Leadership

Youth Leadership

First UMC Youth Group has a strong tradition of youth leadership. The youth take a vital role in planning and leading youth programs. All youth are encouraged to serve to help make youth group (United Methodist Youth Fellowship or UMYF) an awesome place for everyone!

Youth Council

Responsible for the planning and leading the youth group in fulfilling its vision and mission:

  • planning and leading UMYF events and programs for the year
  • planning and leading special events (Fall Retreat, Chili Cook Off, Sweetheart Dinner & Dance, etc.) in conjunction with YMAC
  • serving as peer mentors for the youth group

Membership in Youth Council is open to all active youth. Executive Team members (President, Vice President, and Secretary) as well as Team Leaders and Year Representatives are elected by the Youth Council. The Youth Council usually meets on the 3rd Sunday of each month at noon.

Music & Worship Team

Responsible for the spiritual and musical life of the youth group including:

  • planning and leading UMYF worship
  • planning and leading special worship services such as the Easter Sunrise Service
  • responding to other related spiritual needs as they arise
  • planning and leading music during UMYF
  • coordinating efforts with the youth band and Credo
  • initiating & coordinating other music ministries (i.e. orchestra)

Care & Outreach Team

Cares for the members of the youth group including:

  • caring for youth by sending birthday, sympathy, and we miss you cards
  • welcoming guests & bringing in new folks
  • organizing group builders on occasion
  • planning other fun surprises (like surprise candy breaks, etc.)
  • organizing big brothers and big sisters within the youth group for 6th graders

Mission Team

Leads the youth group in its mission projects including:

  • seeking out new mission projects (particularly in-town projects)
  • coordinating Denton mission projects - ongoing and one-time or seasonal projects
  • recruiting youth and adults to participate in mission
  • working with the Mission Team of the church

Adult Leadership

Youth Ministry Advisory Council

The Youth Ministry Advisory Council (YMAC) is dedicated to supporting the youth of First UMC-Denton by offering guidance, support, resources, and recognition for all areas of the Youth Ministry. They are the driving force behind many of the major youth ministry events. Membership is open to any adult passionate about being an advocate for youth.

UMYF Youth Counselors

These adults volunteer their time, energy, and love to the youth. They are caring, giving adults with strong Christian values and character who spend Sunday nights (and many other times) in ministry with our youth.

Sunday School Teachers & Assistants

These adults volunteer their presence and service to the youth through Sunday morning studies together. Teachers and assistants serve with each class on a semester- or year-long basis.
