Fall Retreat is a primary time of connection and relationship building for our youth, grades 7-12. Held Saturday-Monday of the Labor Day weekend, the youth get away to Bridgeport Camp and Conference Center for a concentrated weekend of play, team building, and worship. The Retreat for 6th graders is Friday-Saturday of the same weekend, allowing for relationship building with the larger body of youth on the Saturday of the retreat.
This yearly event is sponsored by our youth in late October or early November as an intergenerational event. All members of the congregation are invited to submit a pot of their homemade chili into the competition. Prizes are awarded in several categories – spicy, mild, alternative. Silent and live auctions are often a feature of the evening, and several activities to entertain younger children are provided. Funds raised at this event benefit Youth Missions.
Each February, our youth give back to the members of the congregation by inviting them to a Dinner Dance in the Gym. Youth parents cook and the youth serve attendees before the dancing begins. Music is often provided by Foo McBubba, First UMC-Denton’s own big band.
