CDO Outdoor Learning Center
Children’s Day Out has an Outdoor Learning Center located between the children’s playground and the Monroe Fellowship Building to educate children on how plants and flowers grow, pollination, bugs and environment. The learning center is an integral part of CDO’s curriculum. Three-year-olds plant marigolds, alyssum, dusty millers and rosemary. Pre-K plant tomatoes, peppers, cantaloupe and watermelon. Twos sow flower seeds in pots.
The children love getting their hands dirty and knowing that it had compost in it. They wonder if they “tasted the dirt, would it taste like veggies?”
They harvest the veggies, set up a farmers market and snack on the veggies from the Outdoor Learning Center.
CDO built the Outdoor Learning Center with the money raised through the Alternative Gifts Fair.
